The WGAM offers several events for all levels of women golfers. The Ridge Club participates in both Spring Teams and Fall Cup matches. Anyone in the RCWGA is invited to participate.Visit the WGAM events page and the Womens Cup info page for more infomation.
The Women’s Spring Team Matches are a statewide tournament consisting of 5 matches played on Thursdays (April & May) between Mass Golf Member Club teams. The format is individual head-to-head match play using full handicaps.
A team consists of 5 players from the same Member Club who are committed to play and listed on a set roster. Substitutes may be used when necessary and an effort should be made to find a substitute with a similar handicap index. A club may have up to three teams (max).
Each participating Member Club must allow one match per team to be played at their course. At least two dates must be available for each team and if a club is fielding 3 teams then all five dates must be available. By registering for Spring Teams, a Member Club agrees to be a host.
Teams are organized into cups -- six teams per cup. One team is a travel team and does not host.
Here is additional information about this opportunity that we hope you will share with others at your club to help reinforce why Spring Team Matches are a must for all Member Clubs:
Why should a female golfer at my club sign up for Spring Team Matches?
There is no better (or fun) way to kick off the golf season. Spring Team matches are open to any female player with a handicap index of 36.0 or less who has posted at least five rounds of golf in the previous season. Match play is also one of the most enjoyable formats, especially for players looking to get back into their summer form.
Why should my club be involved?
This is an affordable way for female golfers from your club to come together to represent your club, engage in friendly competition with other courses and earn bragging rights in your region. Team spirit is always embraced at the Women’s Spring Team Matches with certain teams coming up with special team uniforms or fun match themes. The best part is that it is very affordable and the course only has to host a maximum of 30 women a few times during the typically slower spring months.
How are teams formed?
Teams are made up of five players from your club. They must all be committed to play and listed on a set roster. Your club can field up to three teams (15 total golfers!). Once a team is set, substitutes may be used when necessary with a special effort made to find a substitute with a similar handicap index.
The Women’s Fall Cup Matches are a statewide tournament consisting of three (3) matches played in September between Member Club teams. The format is match play with six players playing better ball of partners at 90% handicap. Three points are awarded in “Nassau” fashion.
Eligibility
A player must have a handicap index of 36.0 or less from a Mass Golf member club and must have posted five (5) 18-hole scores during the 2018 golf season. The handicap revision of September 1, 2018 will be used for all matches. Each Women’s Fall Cup Team Chairperson will be responsible for verifying player eligibility. There is no set roster for Fall Cup and a Member Club may use any six players who meet eligibility to field a team. The team can remain the same each match or be changed. The Championship will consist of each Region’s Fall Cup winning team sending six players to play in a better ball tournament.
Registration
Teams are coordinated by a designated chairperson at each participating Member Club. Only one person from a Member Club club can complete the registration for up to two teams (max). Each participating Member Club must allow one match per team to be played at their course, and teams are organized into regions by geographical area with four (4) clubs to a region. One team is a travel team and does not host. There is no individual registration for Fall Cup Teams. Registration takes place in December prior to the start of the new season.
